It’s That Time of the Year Again — Annual Renewals Due by December 31

All registered businesses and nonprofits must renew their filing each calendar year — for most businesses there is no charge. This can be done online or by mail.

Businesses required to file include corporations, limited liability companies (LLCs), partnerships and nonprofits. Failure to renew will result in dissolution.

Heads Up Notaries

If your commission expires on January, 31, 2014, you can now renew online or by mail to: Office of the Secretary of State, 60 Empire Drive, St. Paul, MN 55103. If your commission has expired you can seek reappointment by submitting the Notary Public Application availalble online, or by contacting us at (651) 296-2803 and pressing option 3 for assistance.

New Biz Filings Hits 49,500 YTD

September and October were fast-paced months for new business creation in Minnesota with 4,661 and 4,956 new entity filings reported, respectively.

Paul Hodnefield Honored for Contribution to Business Services

In recognition of years of service to Minnesota’s business community, Secretary Ritchie has awarded Paul Hodnefield with the National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion. The medallion honors those who exemplify values that serve the public interest in areas relating to the duties of the Office of the Secretary of State, including business services. Hodnefield has provided his expertise to the Business Services Division of the office for 17 years, offering insight into development of improved business methods, and was a significant contributor to the UCC online application.

The Business Services Division of the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State reviews, approves and files articles of incorporation and amendments for all businesses and nonprofit organizations conducting business in Minnesota. In 2012, the division recorded nearly 61,000 new business filings.
