appeal classification or valuation

Have questions about your 2015 Estimated Market Value?

In late March, property owners across Ramsey County received their 2015 Estimated Market Value for Taxes Payable in 2016 form in the mail.

Do you have a question about a change in value on your property?  Do NOT wait until the fall - you should use the Informal Appeal process now!

Step 1: Call the Assessor's Office First

If you have questions or disagree with the classification or Estimated Market Value of your property for 2015, please contact the Assessor's Office at 651-266-2131 to discuss your concerns.  Often your issues can be resolved over the phone.

Please be aware that you will:

  • Be asked to provide information regarding your concern
  • Receive a return phone call from the appraiser responsible for your property within 1-2 days
  • Need to have an appraiser come to your property to perform an interior review prior to any value adjustment

Step 2: Attend an Open Book Meeting

If you still have questions after contacting the Assessor's Office, you may attend an Open Book Meeting to discuss your concerns with the Assessor.  The meeting times and location are indicated on the front of the valuation statement, and are also listed below.

  • Please bring any documentation (such as a recent appraisal or sale of the property) supporting your claim of overvaluation or erroneous classification with you to the meeting.
  • An interior review of your property will be required prior to any value adjustment.
  • Based on the documentation you bring and our personal review of your property, we may be able to adjust the valuation or classification of your property without further appeals.
  • You will be notified by mail of the Assessor's findings.

You may still call the assessor’s office to have questions or concerns answered after the Open Meeting Dates have passed.

Dates and Times
April 6, 2015 -- 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
April 7-8, 2015 -- 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Location
Ramsey County Property Records and Revenue, 90 W. Plato Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55107.

Note: The Open Book Meeting is only authorized to discuss concerns relating to the 2015 Estimated Market Value for Taxes Payable in 2016.

The Assessor's Office cannot address an appeal of the 2015 taxes or the 2014 Estimated Market Value for Taxes Payable in 2015. The appeal period for last year’s assessment is closed.  An appeal of the 2014 Estimated Market Value can only be appealed through the Minnesota Tax Court, on or before April 30, 2015.

Commissioner McGuire welcomes attendees at the Winter Rec Summit

Winter Rec Summit is a success!

Huge thank you to those who attended the Winter Recreation Summit at Keller Golf Course on March 19.  The snow may be gone, but these folks are already thinking ahead to next winter!  Over 100 people showed up to share their thoughts for expanded winter recreation options in Battle Creek Park.

There will be a follow-up meeting on April 9 at 6:00 pm at the Keller Clubhouse located at 2166 Maplewood Drive in Maplewood to discuss next steps.  To RSVP or get more information on how you can connect with this effort, contact Kara Coustry at kara.coustry@co.ramsey.mn.us.  Please RSVP by April 8.

Did you know?

Ramsey County now has a new digital 911/Emergency Response system.

With the new system that went live on March 24, dispatchers will be able to see the real-time location of law and fire units on electronic maps.  This allows dispatchers to more efficiently direct first responders and reduce response times.

Controlled Burn at Roseville Library

Prairie Restorations has renewed the permit to burn at Roseville, which included neighbor notification.  Because the burn is dependent on perfect wind conditions, there will be little or no notice when they do the burn, other than it will take place within the next 30 days.
