Brr… it’s certainly been cold out there this winter! We hope you’ve
still found a few opportunities to visit the off-leash dog areas and play in
the snow this winter despite the arctic air.
Thieves don’t take a break just because it’s winter. Read on for more
information on security, a new crime reporting tool, flea and tick season and
dog park etiquette for newcomers.
"[Marley] taught me to appreciate the simple things - a walk in
the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in the shaft of winter sunlight.” – John
Grogan
Though it’s still winter – and we just can’t seem to think past the constant cold and snow – flea and tick season starts early in Minnesota. It is best to be prepared in advance. Ticks are responsible for spreading Lyme Disease and other diseases that can cause health problems for you and your pet. Click here to read an article from the University of Minnesota on how to prevent these diseases and how to prepare your pet for tick season.

Dog Park Etiquette 101 from Dr. Sophia Yin, Author of “How to Behave so your

Also, please remember to review the Ramsey County Off-Leash Dog Area
Rules before heading to the park. A copy of these rules is available on our website.
Please remember, do NOT leave valuables in your vehicles at the parking
lots of the off-leash dog areas.
Thieves target off-leash areas because they
know that you will be away from your car for 20-30 minutes; in that time, they
can break into your vehicle and be long gone before you return.
If you must
keep a purse or bag in your vehicle, put it into the trunk BEFORE arriving at
the off-leash area so that thieves do not have the opportunity to watch you put
it there.
The City of Maplewood has just launched a new program to help report
crimes. It does not replace 911, but instead, allows park users to report
crimes anonymously. Crimes can be reported by texting “Maplewood” to TIP411
(847411), or by downloading the “Maplewood Tips” app in the iTunes or Google
Play store. Users can send photos and text to report crimes.
Make sure to never miss an update on our off-leash dog areas by staying connected with Ramsey County online, by email and via Facebook and Twitter. Upcoming meeting announcements will be posted on bulletin boards at the parks, on our website and social media pages, and distributed to email subscribers via GovDelivery.
