SITE UPDATES

RICE CREEK

Seeding at the construction site took place September 23, and we are thrilled to say the parking lot is now open to the public and off-leash area users! The building will not open until spring 2014 to allow for fall drain down. A dumpster and portable toilet will be available this fall and winter.

Thank you to all users for your patience during the construction season!

OTTER LAKE

In the past year, the Otter Lake Dog Park guardians have been working to keep all volunteers and visitors more in the loop. In addition to the park bulletin boards and our Facebook page, we now have a blog site. The site is updated regularly with pictures, articles, and information about events and goings on at the parks.

Otter Lake Dog Park is always looking for a few good volunteers to help out.

From 8 a.m. to noon on October 19th, we are having a maintenance day at the park to remove invasive buckthorn.  We will need people to apply herbicide and haul away brush. Nitrile gloves will be provided for the herbicide application crews. Heavy gloves are recommended for hauling brush. The side of the park that will be undergoing maintenance will be closed at this time.  If you would like to help out contact us at otterlakedogpark@hotmail.com.

Prepare for Winter!

The snow will start flying before we know it! Click here to find tips for how to keep your dogs happy and healthy this winter when the snow and temperatures start falling.

Happy Fall!

Hello! Welcome to the fall edition of the Ramsey County Off-Leash Dog Area newsletter! The leaves are changing, and before you know it, we'll have snow on the ground! (GASP!) Please take a moment to read over our latest updates and news on site improvements made this summer; Rice Creek has a brand new parking lot!

Also, please remember that we are able to operate our off-leash dog areas because of those that take time to volunteer. We list upcoming volunteer opportunities in this newsletter and on our Facebook page.

Safety Update

Warning!

Crime doesn't stop just because it's fall!

As we move into fall and winter, please remember to leave valuables at home or out of sight in your cars. Criminals often know that when you go into the off-leash area, you will be gone for an extended period of time, which gives them ample opportunity to pilfer your car. If you see a crime taking place, please call 911 and report it to the authorities. The best way to prevent theft from autos is to not give them something to take! If you're going to hide items in your trunk, do it before arriving at the OLDA; criminals can watch you hide items if you wait until the parking lot to move them!

Fall Deer Hunts Scheduled

Ramsey County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Metro Bowhunters Resource Base, will again conduct controlled archery deer hunts this fall throughout the Ramsey County parks system. Daylong hunts will be conducted in 10 park locations on select dates in October, November and December.

During the hunts, entire parks or portions of a park may be closed. Signs will be posted at common entry points to parks where hunts are being conducted, and park visitors are requested to stay out of these areas during the hunts. Among the hunt locations are:

  • Otter Lake: Oct. 4-6, Oct. 25-27
  • Battle Creek: Oct. 14-16, Nov. 11-13

Please visit our website for a full list of locations and dates.
