Ramsey County 2016 Road Projects Announced

Ramsey County 2016 Road Projects Announced

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners today approved more than 30 proposed construction and maintenance projects for the upcoming 2016 season. Ramsey County Public Works will be leading or participating in these projects that will improve travel and commerce throughout communities in the east metro.

A project listing and details may be found at www.ramseycounty.us/2016roadprojects. Most projects will begin in the summer. Updates will be provided online and via an interactive map as construction season progresses — including detours and timelines. Subscriptions for e-mail updates on projects are also available.

Major construction projects include:

White Bear Avenue (County Road 65) between I-94 and Beech Street in Saint Paul.

- Rebuilding the interchange at County Road H and I-35W and the intersection of County Road H and Highway 10 in Arden Hills and Mounds View. The project will provide access to the Rice Creek Commons development site.

- Randolph Avenue (County Road 38) between I-35E and Syndicate Street in Saint Paul.

Ramsey County Public Works will resurface more than 16 miles of county roads as part of its 2016 maintenance program, with projects in nearly every Ramsey County community — from Gem Lake to Saint Paul. Of the $7.4 million in resurfacing projects scheduled this year, $3.8 million was raised by a $10 per vehicle wheelage tax approved in 2013 to fund maintenance of Ramsey County roads.

“By the end of 2016, Ramsey County Public Works will have resurfaced nearly 10 percent of our county road system due to the wheelage tax. Without it we would have 25 miles of county roads in serious need of repair throughout our communities,” said Ramsey County Board Chair Victoria Reinhardt. “These roads are safer and cause less wear and tear on vehicles, and taxpayers benefit from reduced short term maintenance costs.”
