Increasing Beverage Container Recycling in Minnesota

The Minnesota Legislature has directed the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to produce a report that details recommendations for a statewide "recycling refund program" for beverage containers that achieves and 80 percent recycling rate. This report is due to the Legislature in January 2014.

Draft program design posted
. A discussion draft of a program design for a recycling refund program for beverage containers in Minnesota is posted on the MPCA web site.
The draft is a representation of how a recycling refund system could operate in Minnesota, and is intended as a starting point for discussion.


Meeting to discuss the draft program design
. The MPCA is hosting a meeting on September 30 to review this draft program design. 
There will be sufficient opportunity for attendees to ask questions and provide feedback. 

September 30: 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Registration is requested to ensure sufficient meeting space

 

Following this forum, MPCA staff will review the comments provided by the forum attendees and, as applicable, use the input to modify the draft program design. A second public meeting will be scheduled in December to review a revised draft that reflects feedback and submitted comments.
