The public is invited to comment, from August 24 through September 28, 2015, on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s proposed amendments to state rules relating to Subsurface Sewage Treatment Systems (SSTS). The MPCA is proposing to amend its SSTS rules, specifically Minnesota Rules, chapters 7080, 7081 and 7083, to comply with two rulemaking directives received during the 2015 Minnesota Legislative Session. The proposed amendments will:  (1) simplify the regulation and administration of work on building sewers connected to septic systems; and (2) establish a process for septic professionals who have not met their continuing education requirements to apply for a one-year extension of professional certification eligibility.

To review a copy of the MPCA’s notice of intention to adopt the proposed expedited rule amendments without a public hearing, please go to the following Web page: www.pca.state.mn.us/iryp3c9. The proposed amendments and the MPCA’s justification for them are also available at this location. In addition, the public notice and a copy of the proposed rule amendments are published in today’s (August 24th) State Register at the following location: http://www.comm.media.state.mn.us/bookstore/mnbookstore.asp?page=register.

You are encouraged to submit comments on the proposed rule amendments. As indicated in the notice, all written comments need to be submitted to the MPCA contact person, Mr. Nick Haig, by no later than 4:30 p.m. on September 28, 2015. Please contact Mr. Haig if you have any related questions regarding this rulemaking at 651-757-2536 or nick.haig@state.mn.us.
