Sandcastle Terrace Just Days from Completion

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and Sandcastle are happy to announce that construction of the Sandcastle Terrace on Lake Nokomis is nearly complete. Only minor construction items remain, and these will be completed on Friday and early next week. MPRB encourages park visitors to swing by the Lake Nokomis Main Beach to sit beneath the new metal arbor at bistro tables or on tall chairs at the bar rail overlooking the lake. Sandcastle serves good local food and drink daily for lunch and dinner. Grab-and-go meals are also available. Sandcastle will remain open through October.

Sandcastle is planning a variety of events for Labor Day weekend, including music, sandcastle-building and ice-cream-eating contests, and a wiener dog race. Visit Sandcastle’s website for details: www.sandcastlempls.com.

MPRB would also like to thank park-goers for their patience during the construction of the Sandcastle terrace. This was a challenging construction season due to the extremely wet spring and localized flooding. MPRB appreciates everyone who continued to patronize Sandcastle even during construction. A few minor items—such as installation of the fabric shade on the arbor—still need to be completed, and there is still some erosion control fabric in place to protect areas of grass and native seed. Visitors can expect, however, a useable site free from heavy construction for the rest of the fall season.
