Sandcastle at Lake Nokomis Now Serving Beer and Wine

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is happy to announce that the Sandcastle Terrace at Lake Nokomis is now open for business. This means that Sandcastle’s seating has returned lakeside and the restaurant is once again serving beer and wine.

Construction of the terrace has taken longer than expected, due primarily to the extremely wet spring. MPRB understands that this and other weather-related trail and facility closures have been an inconvenience for park-goers. The public is encouraged to visit Sandcastle and enjoy moderately priced, fresh, local food prepared right at the Lake Nokomis main beach. Sandcastle is also pouring a selection of local beers.

“Sandcastle is a local, independent business,” said MPRB 5th District Commissioner Steffanie Musich. “The owners have been excellent, flexible, and understanding partners throughout this difficult construction season. They invested in updating the concession building for the MPRB and their restaurant significantly contributes to the exciting range of activities now available at the Lake Nokomis main beach.” Those activities also include the swimming beach itself, walking and bicycle paths, and rental options ranging from bicycles to kayaks to paddleboards. The Lake Nokomis main beach is the only spot in the park system with a restaurant right on the beach.

Sandcastle is open every day of the week serving food and drink from 11am to 9pm through the summer. The restaurant will also offer breakfast from 9am to 11am Saturdays and Sundays in August.

Construction will continue in the coming month with installation of new pathways around Sandcastle, a metal arbor over the terrace, and terrace furniture.
