Minneapolis Park and Recreation
Board Superintendent Jayne Miller welcomes Justin Long as the new leader of the
Park Board’s Environment Stewardship Division. Long was hired after a national
candidate search and will begin his duties as the new Assistant Superintendent
for Environment Stewardship on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
“Preserving,
managing, and enhancing our city’s natural lands, waters, and urban forests is
a core responsibility of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board,” said
Superintendent Miller. “I’m thrilled to have Justin on board to lead such an
important part of our organization’s mission. His experience in both the private
and public sectors will give him great perspective in many key areas.”
The
Park Board’s Environmental Stewardship Division provides expertise for the care
and maintenance of the Minneapolis Park system. The division oversees the
maintenance of the Minneapolis park system's physical infrastructure, equipment
and fleet, natural areas and water resources, and forestry; volunteer
coordination and environmental education. The Environmental Stewardship
division also provides support to the Operations and Environment Committee of
the Board.
Long
comes to the MPRB from the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of
Atlanta, Georgia, where he was Parks Operation Manager. In that role, Long was
responsible for park maintenance for more than 1,800 acres of parkland and tree
care for trees in public rights of way and parks. Prior to joining the City of
Atlanta in 2010, Long worked in the private sector in Massachusetts for 10
years as a landscape architect managing public and private park construction
projects
Long
earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the State University
of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry, at Syracuse.
“I am
thrilled at the opportunity to join the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
and look forward to providing support and leadership to the Environmental
Stewardship Division,” said Long.
