April 6 METRO Green Line Preparedness Exercise

On Sunday, April 6, Metro Transit Police and Rail Operations and Saint Paul Police and Fire will conduct a basic preparedness exercise at the intersection of University and Raymond avenues in St. Paul. The drill will simulate a light-rail vehicle (LRV) and automobile collision with injuries.

Staging will begin at noon with the exercise running from 1 p.m. until approximately 3 p.m. About 15 participants will interact around and onboard the stationary vehicles.

The purpose of the drill is to further acclimate front-line responders to light-rail vehicles and systems and to strengthen working relationships between public safety agencies. No significant traffic impacts are expected. Officers will be on site to provide temporary general traffic management if necessary.

Newsrooms should be aware that multiple emergency vehicles will be in the area and radio communication may be used during the drill.

Metro Transit, public safety agencies and other partners have undergone preparedness training for several months including table-top drills and a recent full-scale exercise near the University of Minnesota in preparation for METRO Green Line operations.

The METRO Green Line will open to the public on June 14. For more information on Green Line safety, visit metrotransit.org/greenline.
