Minneapolis Construction Update May 19 - 25, 2012

Construction Highlights for the Week of May 19-25

• Lane restrictions on I-35W over 3rd Streets and 4th Street.  Two-way traffic will be maintained; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
• Walnut Street reopens week of May 21st; intersection is complete with the final sidewalk, curb, gutter, and roadway. - NEW
• Bedford Street just north of University Avenue reopens early in the week in its final condition with new sidewalk, curb, gutter, and roadway. Crosswalks at Bedford Street intersection reopens early in the week. - NEW
• With the reopening of Bedford, the temporary detour built from Malcolm Avenue to 4th Street will be removed. - NEW
• North side sidewalk on University Avenue in front of Alliance Clinic and Fraser closes Tuesday, May 22 for approximately one week; detour via south sidewalk at Malcolm Avenue or Bedford Street. - NEW
• Crosswalk on the north side of the University Avenue and 29th Avenue intersection closed; use south sidewalk; access maintained to Prospect Park Business Center via a mid-block crossing on 29th Avenue. – NEW
  

Other Road Construction in the Minneapolis Area

I-35W and Washington Avenue Interchange Area 

• Lane restrictions on I-35W over 3rd Streets and 4th Street.  Two-way traffic will be maintained; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
• Ramp from northbound I-35W to University of Minnesota East Bank closed until mid-summer 2012.
• Southeast Cedar Avenue ramp to eastbound Washington Avenue closed until mid-summer 2012.
  

West Bank Area -NO CHANGE

• Eastbound traffic from downtown to Cedar Avenue/West Bank turns left onto northwest Cedar Avenue Ramp.
• Southeast Cedar Avenue Ramp closed to vehicle traffic; detour via Northwest Cedar Avenue Ramp.

• No change.
  

East Bank– Mississippi River to Harvard Street -NO CHANGE

• Southbound East River Parkway under the Washington Avenue Bridge closed through mid-August; northbound East River Parkway remains open. Access to buildings and parking ramp will be maintained. For vehicle/bicycle detour details for all summer road closures, visit http://bit.ly/IJo8gt. 

• Crosswalks at Union Street and Washington Avenue intersection closed; temporary crosswalks added north of intersection on Union Street and approximately 30 feet west of the intersection.
• Washington Avenue entrances to University of Minnesota Transportation and Safety building closed through August 2012; enter building via entrance on Union Street (through the parking ramp driveway) or Harvard Street.
• Pedestrian/bicycle path on the west side of East River Parkway closed through mid-August; pedestrians detour around construction via use of east sidewalk. Southbound bicycles must detour using traffic detour, do not ride your bicycle on sidewalks.
• North sidewalk of Washington Avenue between Pleasant Street and Amundson Hall closed; use south sidewalk or sidewalk on the north side of Ford Hall and Amundson Hall.
• South sidewalk of Washington Avenue between Pleasant Street and Church Street closed.
• Washington Avenue north/south crossings at Church Street closed; use pedestrian bridges near Coffman Memorial Union. ADA access available via west pedestrian bridge.
  

Stadium Village- Harvard Street to Huron Boulevard 

• Washington Avenue closed between Oak Street and University Avenue through August. Access to Hong Kong Noodle and Valu Liquor is only available from the south side of Ontario Street to eastbound Washington Avenue; exit the area through the parking lot of Burger King northbound to University Avenue.  Approximately mid-week, access from Ontario Street will switch to the north side.
• Walnut Street reopens the week of May 21st; intersection is complete with the final sidewalk, curb, gutter, and roadway. - NEW
• Ontario Street closed at Washington Avenue to through traffic; local access on Ontario remains open north and south of Washington Avenue.  

• Short-term nighttime sidewalk closures may occur during the week on Washington Avenue between Oak Street and Huron Boulevard; follow posted detours. - NEW
• North/south crosswalks at intersection of Washington and Ontario closed; use crosswalks at Oak Street or Huron Boulevard. East/west crosswalks pushed back from the intersection about 20 feet.
• North sidewalk of Washington Avenue between Harvard Street and Walnut Street closed; use south sidewalk of Washington Avenue.
  

Stadium Village- University Avenue, Huron Boulevard, and 23rd Avenue -NO CHANGE

• All traffic shifted to the north side of University Avenue between 23rd Avenue and 25th Avenue; two way traffic maintained.
• Washington Avenue from Huron Boulevard to University Avenue closed through August.  Access Arby’s parking lot and drive-thru via Huron Boulevard. Access CSL Plasma via driveway on Huron Boulevard and driveway on University Avenue. 
• Huron Boulevard from just north of the Arby’s driveway to University Avenue closed through August.  For detour details for all summer road closures, visit http://bit.ly/IJo8gt.

• Intersection of University Avenue and Huron Boulevard/23rd, south and east crosswalks closed; use north or west crosswalks.
• South sidewalk of University Avenue between Huron Boulevard and Washington Avenue closed; use north sidewalk on University Avenue or south sidewalk on Washington  Avenue.
• East sidewalk on Huron Boulevard between University Avenue and Washington Avenue closed; use west sidewalk.
• North and east crosswalk at intersection of Huron Boulevard and Washington Avenue closed; use west or south crosswalks. South crosswalk located approximately 30 feet to the south of the intersection.
• North sidewalk of Washington Avenue closed between Huron Boulevard and University Avenue; use south sidewalk.
• East sidewalk of 23rd Avenue between 4th Street and University Avenue closed; use west sidewalk.
  

Prospect Park

• 29th Avenue closed; access to businesses and parking lots maintained.  Access parking lots and businesses on the west side of 29th Avenue from the west via 27th Avenue to 4th Street.  Access parking lots and businesses on the east side of 29th Avenue from the east via Malcolm Avenue to 4th Street.
• Bedford Street just north of University Avenue reopens early in the week in its final condition with new sidewalk, curb, gutter, and roadway. Once Bedford reopens, access to Super America returns to the driveway on Bedford while crews complete work on the north side of University Avenue. - NEW
• With the reopening of Bedford, the temporary detour built from Malcolm Avenue to 4th Street will be removed. - NEW
• 30th Avenue closed to thru traffic to/from University Avenue; use Malcolm Avenue to 4th Street.
• All traffic shifted to the south side of University Avenue between 29th Avenue and Emerald Street; two way traffic maintained.

• North side sidewalk on University Avenue in front of Alliance Clinic and Fraser closes Tuesday, May 22 for approximately one week; detour via south sidewalk at Malcolm Avenue or Bedford Street. - NEW
• Crosswalks at Bedford Street intersection reopens early in the week. - NEW
• Crosswalk on the north side of the University Avenue and 29th Avenue intersection closed; use south sidewalk; access maintained to Prospect Park Business Center via a mid-block crossing on 29th Avenue. – NEW
• Sidewalk closed on north side of University Avenue between Malcolm Avenue and Clarence Avenue in front of Spire Credit Union; detour via temporary pedestrian path following the perimeter of the construction zone in front of Spire. 
• Closure of north sidewalk of University Avenue between 30th Avenue and Malcolm extended to the     end of May; thank you for your patience. – NEW
  West crosswalk at intersection of Malcolm and University closed; use crosswalk on east side of intersection to cross University Avenue.
