Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services assists White Properties to go Smoke-Free

Congratulations to White Properties for joining the thousands of other properties that are smoke-free. On October 1st, the White Apartments in Windom passed a Smoke-Free apartment policy for all 7 properties consisting of 65 units. The policy prohibits the use of e-cigarettes and all other tobacco products. Kudos to Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services TFC for assisting White Properties to pass this policy. New Tool for Walk Audits ~ MAPS-Mini ~ Active Living Research Blog ~ Sept. 2015

The 15-item MAPS-Mini (Microscale Audit of Pedestrian Streetscapes-Mini) tool is an audit, meaning someone walks down the street and completes a short survey for each block and street crossing. A newly-released study shows the MAPS-Mini total score is related to walking or cycling for transportation among children, adolescents, younger adults, and older adults. The tool is short enough to be practical for use by cities and community groups and is a reasonable substitute for the research instrument that is 8 times longer. To learn more and get access to the MAPS-Mini tool click here
