Moving
into SHIP 4, Jeannette Raymond (SHIP Community Engagement TA Coordinator) will host a conference call every other month on
Community Leadership Teams. The purpose is to support SHIP grantees’ work
with community leadership teams – both by presenting content and by creating a
time for grantees to share successes and get suggestions on how to engage with CLT's and deal with challenges.
The
first call is scheduled for November 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. Some initial content will be shared and then we will focus on what will make these calls beneficial to SHIP grantees. We'll also
check in to see if conferencing every other month is sufficient.
If you
would like to receive an outlook meeting invitation to place these calls on
your calendar – please send an e-mail to Jeannette.Raymond@state.mn.us.
Announcement in advance of each call will be placed on Basecamp. If you
have current questions about CLT’s or content suggestions for the calls, please
call me at 651.201.3885.
2016
dates: January 25, March 28, May 23, July 25, September 26, and November 28

A new report from the University of Minnesota
Extension is now available: Cultivating Action: The Ecology of a Statewide Food Network
This final report from the University of Minnesota Extension Health and Nutrition team features key activities of statewide food networks. The report includes challenges these
networks face and best practices to cultivate collective action.
One outcome of this research
so far is that it has informed the development of the Minnesota Food Charter
Network, an emerging statewide food network, rooted in Minnesota Food Charter strategies,
that supports and fosters shared action towards healthy food access for all.
While this report was developed after interviews with 15 statewide food
networks, the opportunities, challenges, and best practices offer excellent
lessons and considerations for any local or regional network.
Please help disseminate this report to your community partners
and networks, especially this week, in preparation for the Food Access Summit in Duluth, November 8-10. Extension would like to hear your feedback and reflections on this report. Send comments to Stephanie Heim at heim0106@umn.edu

The 2015 Menthol Cigarette Intervention Grant, a two-year, $200,000 project, was awarded to Hennepin County Public Health, in collaboration with the Minneapolis Department of Health, Saint Paul-Ramsey Public Health, and Bloomington Public Health (serving Bloomington, Edina and Richfield), for the period of 11/1/2015 through 10/31/2017.
In May 2015, the Minnesota Legislature passed the Omnibus Health and Human Services bill with a provision requiring the Minnesota Department of Health to fund a one-time grant of $200,000 through the Statewide Health Improvement Program. The law requires the grant be used to “engage members of the African American community and community-based organizations to implement strategies and interventions to reduce the disproportionately high usage of cigarettes by African Americans, especially the use of menthol-flavored cigarettes…”
