Gems

October 1, the White Apartments passed a Smoke-Free apartment Policy for all apartment and houses owned and operated by White Properties based out of Windom. This policy will cover over 7 properties that house 65 units. The policy prohibits the use of e-cigarettes and all other tobacco products. Congratulations to White Properties for joining the thousands of other apartments and housing units that are smoke-free. Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services TFC (Start Noticing) assisted White Properties with passing this policy. The policy will be effective immediately October 30.

Two large apartment complexes managed by CommonBond Communities implemented a smoke-free policy effective September 1: Greenvale Place Apartments in Northfield and Maple Hills Apartments in Red Wing. Both of these are 96-unit apartment complexes and all 192 units are project-based Section 8 housing. Kudos to the Four Corners Partnership for providing assistance in implementation and education to residents.

Do you have a resource or success story (“gem”) to share for a future issue?  Submissions for each week’s Thursday publication are due by noon every Tuesday to Health.MakingitBetter@state.mn.us or community specialists for:

Stakeholder Forums ~ Statewide Transportation Plans ~ MnDOT

MnDOT is excited to announce that it’s time to update two important statewide transportation plans. Over the next year, we’ll be working closely with Minnesotans and partners like you to update the:

These are just two of many statewide plans. While MnDOT is best known for the roads it maintains and the projects it builds, MnDOT plans for all the ways people and goods move throughout Minnesota over the next 20 years—individually for each mode and together as a multimodal system. To that end, we are currently finalizing plans for freight, bicycles, pedestrians, and Greater Minnesota transit systems.

Represent your Organization at a Stakeholder Forum

Join MnDOT for one of three workshop opportunities in November. The morning session will focus on trends that will impact Minnesota’s transportation system in the future. The afternoon will include breakout discussions for the State Highway Investment Plan and the Greater Minnesota Transit Investment Plan.

  • Thursday, November 5 – Mankato, MN
  • Friday, November 6 – Minneapolis, MN
  • Monday, November 9 – Brainerd, MN

The forums will run from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm and will include lunch. The format and information presentation will be the same at each forum.
