Volunteers needed to monitor wetlands

Hennepin County’s Wetland Health Evaluation Program (WHEP) is offering residents a unique volunteer opportunity to explore and care for the county’s wetlands.

A background in science or previous experience is not needed — just an interest in wetlands, bugs and/or plants. Hennepin County provides training, equipment and leadership. Teams will be formed in the Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, Maple Grove, Bloomington, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka areas. Adult volunteers in these cities and neighboring communities are welcome to join a team.

The total time commitment is 15 hours per month from June through September 2015. Partnering cities use the data that are collected to determine the health of water resources and assist with natural resource management. Volunteer applications will be accepted through June 15, 2015.

For more information or to become a volunteer, call Mary Karius at
