Recycling Oasis

Hennepin County is unveiling the Recycling Oasis, a parklet or portable park, constructed with recycled materials and native plants embedded on the back of a trailer. Visitors can recycle, get questions answered by recycling experts and advocate recycling everywhere they go.

The Recycling Oasis will be in downtown Minneapolis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays on Marquette Ave between 6th and 7th Street—near the Nicollet Mall Farmers Market and food trucks—providing a place to sit, eat lunch and recycle. The oasis will also be found on Target Field Plaza before Minnesota Twins games and at community events throughout the county.

The Recycling Oasis is a part of the county’s new Recycle Everywhere campaign to encourage people to look for recycling opportunities everywhere they go, including at work, at school, at parks and events.

County research shows that at least one-third of the items in the trash in parks and other public spaces could have been recycled. The county has invested significant resources over the past few years to bolster recycling opportunities. With one-sort recycling, more items accepted and more containers available in public spaces, it’s easier than ever to recycle everywhere.

The county has programs to start or improve recycling at businesses, schools, apartment buildings, events and public spaces.  Free resources available include grants, signage, educational materials and professional staff assistance.
