Share your views about the current and future Lowry Ave. NE

Please take five minutes to complete a survey about existing conditions and future opportunities in the Lowry Avenue Corridor in Northeast Minneapolis. This survey is part of a larger effort to hear from residents, businesses, and others who use the corridor; it's available until July 31. Make sure we hear from you — and pass the word on to others!

Roadway Concept

June 11 public workshop: results are in

More than 40 people helped kick off Community Works' busy summer planning season at a public workshop last month. The Lowry Avenue community works team presented ideas for improving bicycle and pedestrian circulation east of the Mississippi River and possible redevelopment scenarios and roadway improvements for three study intersections.

edit-workshop2

Attendees offered feedback and provided their preferences on roadway concepts for areas west and east of Central Avenue, as well as intersection concepts for Marshall Street, University Avenue and Central Avenue. Attendees preferred:

  • wider sidewalks west and east of Central Avenue
  • wider curb radius at the Marshall Street intersection
  • intersection shifting south with parking at the University Avenue intersection
  • intersection shifting to the northwest and southeast at the Central Avenue intersection

New data on parking, traffic, crashes

Thanks to recent studies on the roadway environment along Lowry Avenue N.E., we have new facts about parking, traffic and crashes:

roadway
  • Religious services create the highest demand for on-street parking on Lowry Avenue near Central Avenue, especially during Friday prayers from 12-1 p.m., and near Filmore Street during Sunday worship from 10-11 a.m.
  • Based on the results of the existing conditions traffic analysis, on average, a vehicle will experience approximately a one-minute delay at the traffic signal at the intersection of Lowry and Central Avenues between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
  • The highest crash rates along Lowry in Northeast occur at the University Avenue intersection and on Lowry between Central Avenue and Johnson Street.

Green homes under construction

GreenHomesNorth1

The City of Minneapolis is approaching the midway point of its goal to work with housing developers to build 100 energy-efficient homes in North Minneapolis by 2017.

GreenHomesNorth2

Since the Green Homes North initiative launched in 2012, funding has been awarded to nine developers to build 47 homes in various locations. Four have been sold, 23 are under construction and 20 are expected to begin construction this summer.

New, green, energy efficient and sustainable housing will increase market values and boost the Northside housing market. Find out more about Green Homes North and its efforts to revitalize neighborhoods, or contact Cherie Shoquist for more information.
