Agreement with MN Housing Finance Agency Results in Funding for Housing First Partnership Program

After approving an agreement with the MN Housing Finance Agency, Hennepin County will receive $1,375,000 for the period October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2015.  The funding will be used to provide the long-term homeless with tenant-based rental subsidies and related services.

The Housing First Partnership program is a coordinated effort with the State of Minnesota, housing service providers, business, faith and advocacy leaders.  It provides assistance with rent, security deposits, application fees and utilities, and supportive services.

Hennepin County currently contracts with Catholic Charities, St. Stephen's Human Services, and Simpson Housing Services.

Board Authorizes Master Banking Agreements

US Bank NA and Wells Fargo NA, among others,
responded to a request for proposal (RFP) to provide banking services for Hennepin County for an initial term of five years.

The increased use of electronic financial transactions necesitated the County seek to lower costs and find more secure ways of receiving and disbursing funds.

The two banks will provide general banking services, merchant card processing, purchasing card services, paycard services, custody services and property tax payments by card and IVR.

As a condition of receiving the County's business, those responding to the RFP provided evidence of their involvement with and presence among County communities, consumer banking, small businesses and home mortgage lending practices and the results of their efforts.

Voting Equipment Lease Agreements Approved

Forty-four communities have lease agreements to use county-owned digital scan voting equipment during federal, state, municipal and school district elections with each city paying for annual maintenance and repair fees.  A provision allows for automatic annual renewal unless terminated by either party.

In April 2013, the Board authorized the purchase of new digital scan voting equipment to replace precinct equipment that has been used the past 15 years.  Digital ballot image scanning is now standard technology and includes new features supporting ranked choice voting ballots.

Agendas and action taken by the Hennepin County Board are posted under Hennepin County Meetings and Agendas. For greater detail on the above agenda items and additional board action, visit County Board Action.

Board Briefings

In addition to our regularly scheduled board meetings,
the Board often meets on Thursday mornings to receive
"Board Briefings."  These are informal opportunities to
discuss emerging issues.  No decisions are made.
Board Briefings occur in the Boardroom on the 24th floor of the Hennepin County Government Center and are open to the public.
