Swim Season Safety

Swim Season

The Memorial Day holiday weekend was the unofficial start of summer. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to stay safe while enjoying water-related recreation such as boating and swimming pools. Take time to create a safety plan prior to boating or swimming and have any needed safety equipment, such as life jackets, ready to go.

On Lake Minnetonka, there are free life jackets available that boaters may borrow for the day.  The life jackets are found inside storage containers located at three public boat launch locations: Gray’s Bay, Spring Park Bay, and Maxwell Bay.

During the past several weeks, Reserve Officers and Special Deputies have received 40 hours of instruction in a variety of areas including traffic direction and crime scene response. On May 21, new Police Reserve Officers and HCSO Special Deputies were recognized at a graduation ceremony.
