Hennepin County Sheriff Releases Body-Worn Camera Video From Execution of Search Warrant in Minneapolis PD Fatal OIS Incident

January 2, 2021 (Minneapolis) - Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson today released video from body-worn cameras that captured the actions of Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Deputies during a high risk, court-ordered “knock and announce” search warrant on December 31, 2020.

Deputies assisted the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) in executing the warrant at the last known address of Dolal Idd, the 23-year-old man who was killed during an officer-involved shooting with Minneapolis Police officers on December 30, 2020.

Sheriff Hutchinson said he made the video available for public viewing to clarify what occurred during the execution of the search warrant. There are allegations that HCSO Deputies acted inappropriately, inhumanely, and with excessive force.

Sheriff Hutchinson says the body-worn camera video tells a different story. Based on his viewing of the video, the Sheriff praised his Deputies for their professionalism and says they acted appropriately, respectfully, and followed HCSO procedure for high-risk warrants.

Sheriff Hutchinson said the rationale for using the HCSO SWAT members to assist the BCA with their investigation was that the search warrant, signed by the courts, indicated there was probable cause to believe guns were in the home.

The BCA is the lead investigatory agency in this case. No further information is currently available.
