On June 17, HCSO and 15 law enforcement agencies –
including the FBI and U.S. Marshals --worked in partnership to conduct a
countywide warrant sweep focused on domestic violence.
“We sent a message to offenders -- we will track you down
and arrest you,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. “Survivors of domestic
violence and residents of Hennepin County want the criminal justice system to hold
offenders accountable for their crimes.”
In the photo, deputies and officers gather for a roll call prior to leaving on the warrant sweep. Local police departments agencies who partnered on
the effort include; Brooklyn Park PD, Brooklyn Center PD, Corcoran PD, Eden
Prairie PD, Edina PD, Maple Grove PD, Medina PD, Minneapolis PD, Minnetonka PD,

Today, Sheriff Rich Stanek is calling for improved care for
the mentally ill who are incarcerated.
In most states nationwide, the county jail is the largest defacto facility for the mentally ill. Sheriff Stanek is in Baltimore, MD for the National Sheriffs' Association
conference. He is leading a discussion
to describe how changes have been made to the system in Minnesota in recent years. The Hennepin County
Sheriff’s Office has been working with community partners, the criminal justice
system, and Minnesota lawmakers to ensure that people with mental illness receive the most appropriate level of care in a timely manner.
Going boating?
Plan ahead and designate a sober boat operator – every time that you
enjoy the lake. In an effort to curb
alcohol-related boating accidents and deaths, the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources, HCSO, and several other law enforcement agencies, increased patrols
for intoxicated boaters June 26-28.
It was part of Operation Dry Water – a national
campaign designed to draw more attention to the dangers of boating under the
influence of drugs or alcohol. Boating while intoxicated (BWI) is one of the
leading factors for boating accidents and fatalities in Minnesota and across
the nation.
What a great way to say thank you to our deputies! Kids designed dozens of incredible cards and described their appreciation for the work of the deputies to help keep them safe. Maple Lake Elementary & Midwest Special Services participated in Operation Thank an Officer.
HCSO wants to visit your National Night Out
gathering. This year, the event is on Tuesday, August 4. Neighbors are
urged to organize block parties to encourage everyone to get
to know each other, build community-police relationships, and remind each other
about crime prevention. To make a request for a deputy or K-9 visit, please call 612-348-3744.
