Volunteer with the Sheriff's Office during the MN State Fair
The Sheriff's Office will return to the Minnesota State Fair August 27-Labor Day. Last year, thousands of visitors learned about preventing drug abuse when they visited our exhibit and met with deputies and volunteers. Are you interested in volunteering for a day? All alumni of the Sheriff's Office Citizen Law Enforcement Academy are eligible to apply for volunteer duties by emailing us at sheriff@hennepin.us
(If you have not completed the academy, sign up for an upcoming session. Click here to learn more.)
Thank you to all residents who visited us during the 2015 Sheriff's Office Open House. The annual event is an opportunity for people to visit the Sheriff's Enforcement Services Division in Brooklyn Park to hear about the work of our deputies and all Sheriff's Office personnel. Visitors also learned about many summer safety topics such as water safety and avoiding distracted driving.
On May 28, the Sheriff's Office held a Heroin Town Hall in partnership with the American Indian community at the Church of Gitchitwaa Kateri in Minneapolis. Community members described how heroin and abuse of other opioids have been devastating to American Indian communities statewide. The U.S. Attorney's Office recently announced the indictment of 41 people involved in illegal drug sales at two reservations in Minnesota. To further reduce the supply of illegal drugs on our streets, representatives from the Sheriff's Office and Minneapolis Police urged residents to call police when they have information about illegal drugs. Read more in this StarTribune report about the event.
