Dayton: Pass Tax Cuts Now

Gov. Mark Dayton blasted fellow DFLers in the Senate on Tuesday, saying Senate leaders were holding hostage a middle-class tax-relief package until they get a new multimillion-dollar office building.

“This is inexcusable. This is unacceptable,” said Dayton, who was on crutches for his first news conference at the Capitol since hip surgery a month ago. “I am very, very, very disappointed.” [Read More]


Op/Ed: Budget forecast good news for Minnesota

The latest state budget forecast is great news for Minnesota! For the first time in seven years, the forecast is predicting budget surpluses for our state’s current biennium and the next one. When I took office three years ago, the 2011 forecast predicted a deficit of $5 billion for the next two years. This year’s forecast predicts a surplus of $2.6 billion.

Some politicians will argue over who deserves what credit for these exceptional improvements. I believe the credit belongs principally to the people of Minnesota. [Read More]

Winona-based Fastenal Co. was one of nine Minnesota firms recognized by Governor Mark Dayton as a recipient of the 2013 Governor’s International Trade Award. Founded in 1967 by Cotter High School graduate Bob Kierlin, Fastenal is an industrial and construction supplier that is also currently the largest fastener distributer in North America.

A press release from the Governor’s office stated that each company was “selected for developing and continuing to grow a significant part of their business in foreign markets, for increasing or maintaining jobs in Minnesota to support international sales, and for developing novel approaches for competing globally.” [Read More]
