ST. PAUL, Minn. - Most times Governor Mark Dayton pushes his pen across an executive order it's to declare a state of emergency, activate the National Guard or perform some other type of pressing business.
On Tuesday the governor signed a document that is less urgent, but perhaps more impactful: an order for the executive branch of Minnesota's government to use language that constituents will find easier to understand.
The aim is to stop the flow of government-speak that some find to be just a bunch of gobblety-gook, and improve communication flow between Minnesotans and their elected/appointed officials.
Executive Order 14-7 requires the Office of the Governor and all executive branch agencies to use plain language, defined by Dayton as a communication that an audience can understand the first time they read or hear it. [Read More]

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton revealed his "Unsession" agenda on Tuesday to simplify state government and eliminate outdated laws -- 7 of which are just ridiculous.
Among notable highlights, Gov. Dayton wants to eliminate a 1937 law that prohibits drivers from driving in neutral. You can't drive in neutral.
ABSURD LAWS
1. Shorter, simpler phone bills
Eliminate unnecessary state statutes that make phone bills long and confusing.
2. Carry your fruit in...whatever you want
It is currently a misdemeanor to carry fruit in an illegally-sized container. [Read More]

Gov. Mark Dayton’s administration rolled out a comprehensive government streamlining package Tuesday, outlining more than 1,000 proposed changes to make state services easier and more efficient.
The overhaul seeks changes in every corner of state government, from speeding environmental permitting to making it easier and faster the buy fishing licenses and pay taxes. The initiative also seeks to root out antiquated laws clogging up the books and adding work for state agencies. [Read More]

Governor Dayton's reform proposals include over 1,000 ways to make state government work better for the people of Minnesota.
