IBM Provides Free i2 Software Training and Job Placement Assistance to Veterans, Oct. 24 - 28

IBM's Veterans Employment Initiative has launched, and includes software training and job placement assistance. Funded by an IBM grant program, the initiative connects IBM expert software trainers with qualified participants for five days of instruction on IBM i2® Analyst's Notebook®. At the conclusion of the instructional session, participants may take the exam for certification as an advanced data analyst. Employers are expected to fill nearly 200,000 jobs over the next few years with those holding credentials like those provided by this new program.

Nonprofit and Veteran's groups – including lead partners Corporate America Supports You (CASY) and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN) – joined IBM to develop the project in collaboration with i2 clients including Citi and JP Morgan Chase. These enterprises rely on i2, and recognize the critical need for new hires with advanced data analyst skills. In tandem with IBM Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs and Human Resources, i2 clients will seek to align certified trainees with open positions, and provide special assistance with navigating the hiring process.

Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund Approves Grant for $15,000 to Assist Minnesota Veterans and their families thru “Springboard for the Arts”

At the Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund (V4V) monthly meeting, a grant for $15,000 was awarded to the ARS Bellum Foundation by the eight member Board of Directors to assist their mission to support Veterans and their families within the State of Minnesota.

The ARS Bellum Foundation administers the “Springboard for the Arts” curriculum that works with Veterans and their families who are struggling with PTSD and related mental health problems due to their service time.

The V4V Trust Fund is a 501c(19) non-profit organization established as the result of the 2006 sale of Lake Minnetonka Big Island Disabled Veterans Camp. The non-profit organization has eight board members, two Veterans each who are appointed by the DAV, VFW, MOPH, and American Legion. The board oversees the funds from the sale of the island to the City of Orono and has a grant application process on their website. Grants are made to organizations serving Minnesota’s Veterans in a way that conforms to the criteria the V4V has documented online at their website.
