Be part of a river management community
The River Management Society (RMS) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to support professionals who study, protect, and manage North America's rivers. RMS’ membership includes federal, state, and other agency employees, educators, and technical experts from non-profit and private organizations who understand the critical role rivers play in the lives of our neighbors and our nation.
RMS provides members a unique forum for sharing information about the appropriate use and management of river resources between organizational ‘silos.’ RMS-Midwest is one of seven regional chapters in the United States. Each chapter meets on or near rivers and at events such as the recent Minnesota Water Trails Tourism Summit to discuss regional river management issues. These meetings often result in the development of lasting partnerships. Join RMS to help the Midwest Chapter advance best practices in river protection and recreation development.
Join Paddle Forward, a group of young people guided by Wild River Academy, as they paddle the entire length of the Minnesota River State Water Trail from September 1st through October 10th. assistance to local governments for public boat accesses, campsites, rest areas
and portages on the State's rivers and lakes. Eligible projects include
acquisition, development and improvement of public boat accesses, parking lots,
docks, boat launching ramps, campsites, rest areas and portages. Engineering
and design assistance is available. For more information, click here.
Local
Trail Connections Program
The Local Trail Connections Program
provides grants to local units of government to promote relatively short trail

result in a trail linkage that is immediately available for use by the general
public. Trail linkages include connecting where people live (e.g. residential
areas within cities, entire communities) and significant public resources (e.g.
historical areas, open space, parks and/or other trails). For more
information, click here.
Regional
Trail Grant Program
The Recreational Trails
Program (RTP) provides grants to local units of government to promote
development of regionally significant trails outside the seven-county
metropolitan area. Eligible projects include acquisition and development
of trail facilities outside the seven-county metropolitan area that are
considered of regional or statewide significance. Click here for more information.
