It’s hard to believe, but we are already in the midst of our fall round of Firearms Safety Classes! Many thanks to those of you who have already held a class or field day in your community. The schedule of classes on the DNR website is long, and parents and students are registering for these classes each day.
As you probably have experienced, many parents are looking for a field day for their child who is completing the online course and may have contacted you to request their child attend your field day. You can certainly accommodate these students in your field day by requesting them to attend an hour prior to the start of your field day. They could also attend your gun handling session if they have notified you ahead of time.
Here are the basics of what to cover if you plan to include online students: 1. Collect the Field Day Voucher from the student, as proof of completion of the online course. 2. Have Parents fill out Parental Release Form for their child/children. 3. Administer the 15-Question Quiz (if you need a supply of the Quiz/answer sheet, we can email it to you or send it with your supplies). 4. Reference our Pocket Guide – the information in green is what needs to be covered if including online students into your field day.
These students will now be able to join your classroom students in the scenarios and range activities. If you have questions, please contact your Regional Training Officer or the Safety Training Office.
Stacey Stich has recently been hired to support the Trail Ambassador Program as well as our Volunteer Instructor program. Stacey will also be working in our Standards and Training Section.
Welcome Stacey!

The ATV/OHM online safety course is now online!
If you would like to access the online course, go to:
http://offroad-ed.com/minnesota/.
We will continue to use the same age format as we have for the CD course - 11-15 year-olds complete the online course and are required to attend an instructor-led operator course. Students age 16 and older will complete the online course and have the option to attend the operator course. OHM students (ages 11-15) that want ONLY an OHM certificate will complete the online course, but not be required to attend an operator course.
Do you know someone who wants to become a DNR-Certified Volunteer Safety Training Instructor? Does your Team have helpers who are not certified? Contact your local Regional Training Officer to schedule an instructor clinic in your area. Go to:
DNR Instructor
Page and click on Regional Training Officer Map for contact information.
