Human Services Commissioner Emily Piper visited Brainerd on Sept. 13 to see firsthand how the department has begun transforming the vocational services it offers to more than 600 clients with disabilities statewide. The Minnesota Department of Human Services hosted meetings in Little Falls
and Lakeville and will have another in Bemidji to provide information about a
benefit available for children and youth under age 21 with autism spectrum
disorder (ASD) and related conditions. The benefit is available through Medical
Assistance and MinnesotaCare. The meetings are part of a series of forums
around the state. More information is available in a news release

Minnesota’s Child Support Task Force listened to public comments in Minneapolis
and Brainerd as it gathers information on how to improve the child support
system. Additional public meetings are scheduled around the state, including
meetings on Oct. 25 in Mankato and Nov. 29 in Coon Rapids. More information is in a news release

In order to mark National Recovery Month, Gov. Mark Dayton proclaimed
September 2017 Recovery Month in the state of Minnesota. Recovery Month
gives focus to the fact that, as the Governor’s proclamation says, “Every day,
Minnesotans across the state recover from substance use disorder and mental
illness and join the thousands of vital, active, and contributing members of our
