Broadband Program Worth Saving Minneapolis Star Tribune-4/16/15 Despite
a legislative proposal to cut funding, DEED's Office of Broadband
Development and its grants program should be saved, according to an
editorial in last week's Star Tribune. The newspaper said the
Legislature should not walk away from efforts to secure broadband's
benefits for every Minnesotan.
Job Creation Fund Getting Results International Falls Journal-4/14/15 Companies have committed to investing $344.3 million and creating more than 1,800 jobs in Minnesota since the Job Creation Fund was launched last year. Of the 31 projects approved for funding from the program, 17 have been in the Twin Cities and 14 in Greater Minnesota. Projects include Andersen Corp. in Bayport, TEAM Industries in Detroit Lakes and Capital Safety in Red Wing.
Jobless Rate Steady at 3.7 Percent St. Paul Pioneer Press-4/17/15 While the state gained nearly 8,000 jobs in March, the unemployment rate didn't budge, staying at 3.7 percent for the eighth straight month. DEED's Steve Hine said the state's rising labor force participation rate -- now at 70.5 percent -- kept the jobless rate from falling. He called rising participation a welcome trend that likely won't last as baby boomers exit the workforce.
Minneapolis is the most literate city in the country, while St. Paul is No. 4, according to a study by Central Connecticut State University.

educational levels, newspaper circulation, and access to Internet and

Employers Add 7,800 Jobs in March The state gained 7,800 jobs last month, while the unemployment rate stood at 3.7 percent for the eighth consecutive month. The
education and health care sector drove much of the growth in March,
with 5,800 new jobs. The state's labor force continues to grow, reaching
a record 3.02 million workers.
