Manufacturers Get Help From Job Training Pilot

DEED launched the Job Training Incentive Pilot Program to help small businesses train new workers quickly and efficiently. The program is an outgrowth of the existing Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program.

Winona Company Innovates with Creation Station

Miller Ingenuity, which makes parts for trains, held a ribbon cutting for the Creation Station in their manufacturing plant recently. The company based the design off of software giant campuses like Google. The room feels like a coffee shop, but is wired with technology. Employees use smart boards to render new parts for trains and work with engineers in the field via streaming video. The Creation Station also has a pool table and a kitchen. Ikonics Plans to Expand on Home Turf

Ikonics is one of 25 companies to be awarded funds from $24M Job Creation Fund. About $10M remains to be awarded.

Angel Tax Credit Program Now Accepting Applications
The 2015 program contains new features. $7.5 million is reserved for investments in businesses owned by women or minorities or in businesses located in Greater Minnesota. Beginning Oct. 1, any remaining tax credits not allocated to these targeted businesses will be made available to others. Credit allocation applications will be accepted beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

Ikonics Plans $4.3M Duluth Expansion
The Duluth-based imaging technology company plans to invest $4.3M and hire 20 new workers. DEED will assist with a $508,500 award from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund.

Halcon Expanding in Stewartville
The office furniture manufacturer is adding 12 jobs and will invest $2.9 million to expand its facilities. DEED will assist with a $175,000 grant from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund.

Rambow Inc. Announces New London Expansion 
Rambow Inc., specializing in custom embroidery and screen-printed apparel and promotional items, has announced plans to expand its operations and create 15 full-time jobs as it increases its sales outside of Minnesota. The company will invest $507,000, and DEED is assisting with an $84,000 grant from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund.

Two Minneapolis organizations -- Build Wealth MN Inc. and the Latino Economic Development Center -- that help low-income and minority entrepreneurs were awarded $260,000 in grants from DEED. Build Wealth  received a $135,000 grant, and the Latino Economic Development Center received a $125,000 grant from the Urban Initiative Loan Program, whose mission is to support the growth of minority-owned and operated businesses and to create jobs in economically distressed areas of the Twin Cities. Read more.
