Tax field auditors, stationed across Minn, are an important part of the internal control structure in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program. About 125,000 employers in Minnesota are covered under the UI law. Field auditors review about $4 billion in wages every year. Most employers do an excellent job meeting their UI tax reporting requirements. As a result, the audit process is most often used to educate employers and help them reduce time they spend on UI tax reporting.
