Custom Products Plans to Expand, Add Jobs

DEED is assisting with cost of the expansion, with $231,000 from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund. Custom Products will receive the funding once it has completed the expansion and added the jobs.

Guadalupe Alternative Programs Awarded Federal Grant to Assist At-Risk Youth Enter Workforce
The alternative high school in St. Paul’s West Side neighborhood, has been awarded a $768,000 YouthBuild grant. DEED's Office of Youth Development provided technical assistance and coordination for the GAP grant proposal as well as state match funding.

GAP YouthBuilders

Guadalupe Alternative Programs (GAP) will use their competitive YouthBuild grant to train 48 at-risk youth in St. Paul in construction, and prepare them for employment in Minnesota's  construction industry (above). Nancy Waisanen, DEED's Office of Youth Development, was key in developing their successful grant application. This is a huge boost for St. Paul youth: To date, the Office of Youth Development has leveraged more than $1.5M  of federal Youthbuild funding for the city of St. Paul using state YouthBuild funds as the required match. City Academy is the other grantee.
