Displaced Homemaker

Imagine how thrilled you’d be to land a good-paying after more than a year of unemployment. Then just as devastated to be let go after two weeks for tending to the needs of a very sick child. She was a single mother, making do without child support, behind on utilities and rent. But first things first. A WINGS Tri-County Action Program counselor offered hope – and assisted her in obtaining immediate emergency resources such as food support, cash assistance, food shelf and utility assistance. Step 2: Persist in the job search with a generous amount of job leads and on her child support case. Within two weeks, and just before the Christmas holidays, she found a new job and her child support case progressing. DEED’s Displaced Homemaker Program offers pre-employment services that empower clients to enter or re-enter the labor market after having been homemakers.
