Axis Tilts to Opening in May

Axis Clinicals, an India-based clinical trial company, is expanding operations to a new facility at the former Walmart site in Dilworth. The business qualified for almost $780,000 in pay-for-performance grant money from DEED’s Minnesota Job Creation Fund and $1M from the Minnesota Investment Fund. Axis will invest $12 million into the community.

UMD Opening Center to Train Next Generation of Miners

Proposed taconite and copper-nickel mines in northern Minn could create hundreds -- if not thousands of new jobs -- in coming years. In addition, hundreds of workers at existing iron ore mines are nearing retirement. A highly specialized infrastructure and workforce have developed. Twin Cities in Pilot Program to Draw FDI

The pilot is part of the Global Cities Initiative, a five-year project created by the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase & Co. The Twin Cities is among six U.S. metro areas selected with the goal of boosting foreign investment in each region.

MSP Chosen for FDI Pilot Project
Minneapolis-St. Paul has been selected for a pilot project aimed at attracting more foreign direct investment. DEED partnered in the pilot project application with GREATER MSP and St. Paul Port Authority. Also, the Minnesota Trade Office named Laurence Reszetar as director of foreign direct investment.

The Minnesota Youthbuild Program works closely with the Apprenticeship Coordinators Association of Minnesota and the Office of Apprenticeship at DOLI. In the last three years, several Youthbuild graduates, such as David, have entered registered apprenticeship in Minnesota’s building trades. David came to Youthbuild to find a permanent residence for his family – and get his life back on track. He earned an OSHA 10-hour Safety Certification, driver’s license, First Aid/CPR Certification, a State of Minn Lead Safe Worker’s License and GED. He pursued a business management degree at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and was hired as a full-time sales associate. David was also hired by Urban Homeworks to complete lead abatement projects and assist on construction crews. During that time, he was accepted in the Carpenters Local 320 Carpentry Apprenticeship program and sponsored by Mortenson Construction.
