Taylor, pictured second from right, was a Bemidji High School dropout when he entered Bemidji Youthbuild, run by Bi-County Community Action Programs. That one decision changed his life: Taylor earned his high school diploma and nationally-recognized construction and pre-apprenticeship credentials, racked up highway clean-up community service hours and volunteered at an elementary school and nursing home. Once on the construction site, Taylor gained confidence and displayed strong leadership skills. He went on to become a Youthbuild crew leader and intern -- and today works for a local construction company. Since 1990, Bemidji Youthbuild has constructed or rehabbed more than 12 single-family homes, two Head Start facilities, and 20 homes for transitional housing. Read more about Youth programs.
