Education Leaders Tout Proposed $6.5M Renovation at Tech School in Moorhead

North Star Insurance Expands Cottonwood Headquarters
North Star Mutual Insurance Company, which specializes in farm, home, auto and small business insurance, plans to invest $9.5 million, create 12 new FT permanent jobs. DEED will award the company $620,000 from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund if it meets performance goals.

Tatiana became involved in HIRED’s YouthLEAD services, a Ramsey County Workforce Solutions initiative, when she was a senior in St. Paul’s Central High School. She pursued her goals, participated in training programs and even spoke at the Capitol on Youth Rally Day – all under the guidance of Donald Walker, employment counselor. Helping young people get into college is not the whole story. ‘You need to stick with them and be a support team, and she came through with flying colors,’ Walker said. For Tatiana, having that extra support in her life made a big difference: ‘It helped me believe I can actually do this.’ Tatiana graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psy­chology and community sociology, and Walker’s role in her life may have had a stronger influence than he realized. When an opening for an MFIP counselor came up, she was hired. Read more about Youth programs.
