Cluster Strategy Could Work With Water

A collection of Twin Cities water technology businesses is here only because of serendipity, but economic development leaders have figured out the right thing to do with it. The Minnesota Water Technology Business Summit, the state's first water technology business summit, will be held Tues., March 25 in Eagan. This full-day event will feature high-level speakers from private industry, economic development and government organizations as well as breakout sessions. Summit hosts are Minnesota Trade Office, Ecolab and Greater MSP.

DEED Grant Will Boost Job Skills of At-Risk Youth

SMPIC was awarded $120,000 for its Young Adult Career Pathway project, offering comprehensive training concentrating on health care to 18- to 24-year-old out-of-school youth and communities of color. Health care is a high-demand, high-wage industry in southwest Minnesota.

Christopher Smith

Christopher Smith traveled to Siberia last March to compete in the World Deaf Cross Country Skiing Championship. Deaf from birth, Smith is now a world-competitive athlete and a machinist at JEM Technical, an Orono manufacturing company. To get where he is today, Smith worked with a highly collaborative vocational rehab team. Read more about Smith's story.
