Pennock Project Awarded TED Funding

A road leading to Meadowstar Dairy near Pennock will be upgraded thanks to a $407,000 grant from the state Transportation and Economic Development Program (TED). The Pennock highway project was one of 11 that were awarded $32 million last week from TED, which is a joint initiative of MnDOT and DEED.  Meadowstar Dairy opened last fall and is expected to create 52 jobs within two years.

Construction Sector Needs Minorities

DEED's Steve Hine says the demographic trends are undeniable. The Twin Cities construction industry will need trained minority workers to sustain growth in an industry that is projected to lose older white workers faster than they can be replaced by 2020. "An industry that has historically relied on young white men is going to have to change its [hiring] practices," he says.

Takeda Acquires Brooklyn Park Facility
Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., the largest pharmaceutical company in Japan and among the industry leaders, announced last week that it has acquired a biologics manufacturing facility in Brooklyn Park. 
The company, which develops and markets medicines for treating cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders and other health problems, said the facility primarily will manufacture the prescription medication Entyvio (vedolizumab) and other biologic products.

$32 Million Awarded for TED Projects
MnDOT, in partnership with DEED, awarded $32 million in grants last week for 11 state highway projects that will support growing industries and businesses, leverage private funding and improve the transportation system for all users. The funding was awarded under the state’s Transportation Economic Development Program (TED). "For every public dollar we invest, Minnesota’s Transportation Economic Development program leverages an additional three dollars in economic development investment,” said Lt. Gov. Tina Smith

DEED Awards Grants for Cleanup Projects
Redevelopment projects that will create or retain 2,322 jobs have been approved for investigation and cleanup funding from DEED. The agency awarded $6.2 million from its Contamination Cleanup and Investigation Grant Program for 14 projects in the state. The funding will help pay for cleaning up or investigating pollution on those sites. Housing, office and retail space, a hotel and brewery are among the projects planned.  

Nominations Sought for Trade Awards
The Minnesota Trade Office is accepting nominations for the 30th annual Governor’s International Trade Awards, which honor Minnesota companies that have excelled in the international marketplace. Award recipients will be recognized at a ceremony in April. Awards will be presented to Minnesota companies that have shown exceptional progress and success in foreign markets. The DEED website has details and application forms.
