Korean Official Pays a Visit to Minnesota Minneapolis Star Tribune-10/19/15 South Korean trade official Shinn Tae-yong visited Minnesota last week at the behest of the director of DEED's Korea trade office, Imm Han-kyong. DEED last year hired Imm, who goes by Hank, to promote goods produced by the state’s companies and farmers in South Korea. The country is Minnesota's seventh-largest trade partner.
DEED Launches Worker Housing Program Grand Rapids Herald Review-10/23/15 DEED will begin accepting applications on Nov. 2 for grants awarded by the agency's new Workforce Housing Development Program. The program, which is open to cities and joint county-city economic development authorities in Greater Minnesota, provides matching funds that communities can use to encourage developers to build market-rate rental housing.
DEED Honors Spring Grove Manufacturers Bluff Country Newspapers-10/21/15 DEED recognized several Spring Grove businesses during Manufacturing Week earlier this month. Commendations were sent out to Northern Engraving, Kraus Oil, Farmers Elevator Cooperative, Spring Grove Soda and LaX Fabricating.
Minnesotans rank high for fiscal responsibility. Personal finance website GoBankingRates.com rated the state fourth nationally in a major study of how people handle their money. North Dakota was first, followed by New Hampshire and Utah.

Health Care Job-Training Grant DEED awarded Rochester Community and Technical College a $303,537 Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant to train 289 health care employees of Comfort Health, Rochester; Spring Valley Senior Living, Spring Valley; and Pine Haven, Pine Island. Comfort Health provides long-term and home health care. Spring Valley Senior Living and Pine Haven are skilled-nursing and assisted- and independent-living facilities.
