Teeing Up for the Ryder Cup Minnesota Public Radio-9/28/15 After years of preparation, Chaska's Hazeltine National Golf Club is counting down to its time in the golf world sun when it hosts the Ryder Cup in September 2016. The tournament pits Europe's best golfers against the top golfers in the United States in a tradition dating back to the Jazz Age. "This is a huge opportunity for our state. We expect 250,000 visitors, 78 percent of the those should be from outside of our state," Commissioner Sieben said. She estimated the total economic impact at $100 million.
Celebrate Minnesota's Manufacturing D-L Online-10/4/15 Minnesota’s second largest industry is manufacturing, and Becker County is a good representative of that statistic. Gov. Mark Dayton proclaimed Oct. 1-10 to be Minnesota Manufacturing Week (though it’s longer than a week), supporting the more than 311,000 manufacturing jobs in the state.
Minnesota is the second-happiest state behind only Utah, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The consumer finance website based its rankings on emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and recreational opportunities. The least happy state was West Virginia.

DEED Awards Grant to Assist Emerging Businesses Eleven nonprofit organizations that provide services and technical assistance to emerging businesses and entrepreneurs in Minnesota have been awarded two-year grants for a total of $2.7 million
Governor Declares Small Business Day Gov. Mark Dayton declared last Wednesday to be Small Business Day in the state. The governor presented the proclamation at the premiere of the new documentary called “Small Business Revolution.” “Small businesses are the backbone of Minnesota’s economy,” Gov. Dayton said. “Our small businesses provide high quality services and products, support strong communities, and provide jobs and opportunity for people across Minnesota. I am proud to celebrate their contributions and successes.”
