Dayton Calls Mexico Trip Most Productive St. Paul Pioneer-8/13/15 Gov. Dayton said the trade mission to Mexico last week was "the most productive trade mission I've been involved in." He cited five "memorandums of understanding" that officials signed to promote more student and faculty exchanges and boost communication between "women in agriculture" in the two countries. Officials also met with Mexican business and government leaders to promote trade relations.
DEED Grants Meet Job-Training Needs Northfield News-8/11/15 The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant that DEED awarded for training workers at All Flex Flexible Circuits in Northfield was lauded last week by the Northfield News. The newspaper said Minnesota’s manufacturing sector needs more skilled workers to stay competitive. Partnerships that train employees on the latest industry standards and meeting customer needs are crucial to filling the demand for workers.
DEED Allocates $12M in Angel Tax Credits Brainerd Dispatch-8/7/15 DEED's Angel Tax Credit Program has allocated $12 million in tax credits for investments in more than 80 Minnesota startup companies so far this year.
The state has paid out $16 billion in unemployment benefits to 8.5 million people since the Minnesota Employment Security Law was enacted on Dec. 24, 1936. A timeline of the history of the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program can be seen here.

UI Program Marks 80th Anniversary Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, below, visited DEED on Friday to help celebrate the 80th anniversary of the federal Unemployment Insurance Program. The program was part of the Social Security Act that President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law on Aug. 14, 1935. In addition to addressing the needs of retired workers and the poor , the Social Security Act was a landmark law that enabled states to create unemployment insurance benefits programs to provide temporary financial support for people who lost their jobs.

DEED and MnDOT are holding a series of information sessions around the state this month to inform the public about the Transportation Economic Development Program. TED, as the program is known, has $30 million available for highway improvement and public infrastructure projects that create jobs and support economic development.
