Advanced Minnesota, the workforce training wing of area community colleges, will offer another commercial driver’s license course at Hibbing Community College. Up to 730 job openings — with living wages between $37,000 and $57,000 annually — are projected to open up in the next decade in Northeastern Minnesota, according to DEED.

Minnesota Adds 2,900 Jobs in June Minnesota gained 2,900 jobs in June – a welcome reversal after employers cut 200 jobs in May, according to DEED figures. “June marks the sixth anniversary of the official end of the ‘Great Recession,’ and the economy is seeing continued positive change,” said DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben. “For example, the state saw gains in June in construction that pushed the industry back above 110,000 jobs – a level we haven't seen since July 2008.”

Next month DEED’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services will launch a pilot project
focused on supporting clients who receive SSDI benefits. The emphasis is on
developing an employment plan for clients within 30 days of applying for
services and providing vocational rehabilitation counseling, financial education
and labor market information. Clients will be supported in making informed
career choices and encouraged to move into the world of earning a livable wage. Eight
teams from Crookston, Duluth, Anoka, North Minneapolis, Woodbury, Burnsville,
Mankato, and Marshall will help move the pilot project forward. For
