Minnesota is Top State for Business

Leave it to the North Star State to chart a new course to competitiveness. Minnesota is America's Top State for Business in 2015, reaching the pinnacle of success by way of a much different route than our eight previous winners. Minnesota scores 1,584 out of a possible 2,500 points, ranking in the top half for all but two of our 10 categories of competitiveness.

Business news channel CNBC unveiled the results of its ninth annual list of America's Top States for Business on Wednesday, and Minnesota took the No. 1 spot. “Minnesota shows that there are multiple paths states can follow to be competitive,” CNBC Special Correspondent Scott Cohn said.

Bemidji officials said the city is taking the same path as the state, after CNBC named Minnesota the top state for business last week. "I noticed in the state report that Minnesota has improved over the last few years and I think Bemidji has mirrored that," said Greater Bemidji Executive Director Dave Hengel. "We've worked really hard to allow entrepreneurs to create a business and succeed."

Governor Credits Minnesotans for Award
Minnesota is America’s Top State for Business in 2015, according to a study released last week by CNBC. Minnesota moved into the top spot this year, after placing sixth in 2014 and 15th in 2013. "The credit for our state’s economic success belongs to the people of Minnesota," said Gov. Dayton. 

DEED Awarded Federal Job Training Grant
DEED was awarded a $5.75 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor to help fund job training in high-growth sectors, including advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health care, information technology and transportation. The federal agency awarded grants totaling $138 million to 27 states and the Cherokee Tribal Nation through the Sector Partnership National Emergency Grant Program.

In a new video, DEED's Alessia Leibert talks about the agency's Graduate Employment Outcomes tool that helps students,  parents and other users make informed decisions about careers. The tool, which DEED unveiled earlier this year, provides information about employment outcomes for Minnesota's post-secondary school graduates, median earnings in various occupations and much more. This is the second in a series of short videos by the Workforce Data Quality Campaign, a national initiative that encourages data collection and usage to advance the country's workforce and industries.
