State of Manufacturing in Minnesota Enterprise Minnesota-May 2015 DEED Deputy Commissioner Kevin McKinnon discussed manufacturing in a Q&A feature that was published in a recent edition of Enterprise
Minnesota magazine. McKinnon said DEED has always worked with manufacturers, but the agency has ramped up its efforts in recent years. About 65 percent of the work in DEED's
main programs is targeted at manufacturing operations, he said.
DEED Initiative Helps Small Businesses Grand Rapids Herald Review-6-14-15 Small businesses in Minnesota have received $7.8 million in loans that helped them create or retain 2,600 jobs under DEED's Small Business Credit Initiative. The program is generating a return on investment of more than 16 to 1, thanks to private sector equity and financing.
Life After Target Minnesota Public Radio-6-15-15 Many Target workers have landed new gigs or have feelers out for new positions since the company announced 2,400 layoffs earlier this year. Others are finding help from DEED's Dislocated Worker Program, which has served 335 as of April. Director Anthony Alongi says the program also helped about 170 Target employees who were laid off last year. Most of them left the program with additional credentials and education and found jobs paying an average of nearly $36 an hour.
St. Paul and Minneapolis tied for first place in a Trust for Public Land study that ranked park systems in major U.S. cities. Other cities in the top five were Washington, D.C., San Francisco, New York City and Portland, Ore. |
Caterpillar Plans Brooklyn Park Project Caterpillar Paving Products will add 31 production jobs and invest $3 million to expand and update its manufacturing facilities in Brooklyn Park. The business, which is a division of Peoria, Ill., based Caterpillar Inc., makes paving machines used in road and highway construction. DEED is assisting the expansion with $307,300 from the Job Creation Fund. DEED has awarded $19 million to 36 companies in Minnesota since the fund was launched in January 2014.
Dubow Textile Expanding in St. Cloud Dubow Textile Inc. is expanding its workforce by 20 employees and building a 21,000-square-foot addition at its operations in St. Cloud. The company is investing $1.5 million to expand and modify its current facility at 455 Lincoln Ave. NE. DEED approved the company for a grant of $176,575 from the Job Creation Fund.
