2015 Statewide Homeless Study - Volunteers Needed

Wilder Research needs volunteers for the 2015 statewide homeless study. The study is a point-in-time survey of people throughout the state who meet the federal definition of homelessness. It includes counts and estimates of the number of people who are homeless, and a survey of homeless people. The survey is conducted every three years on the last Thursday in October at emergency shelters, domestic violence shelters, transitional housing programs, social service agencies, encampments and abandoned buildings. About two-thirds of the interviews take place in the Twin Cities area.

1. Contact your Senators and Congressional members TODAY and ask that they cosponsor S. 1513/H.R. 3406, the Second Chance Reauthorization Act of 2015.
2. Your organization can join others from across the nation in signing the National Sign-on letter requesting full funding of the Second Chance Act and its vital reauthorization.
3. Join the conversation via social media by tweeting and posting to Facebook one of the following:

Ramsey County to Hold Community Forums to Address Drug Abuse Issues

Parents, teachers, youth service providers, and community members are invited to learn more about drug trends, addiction, and intervention options in Ramsey County

This October two Community Forums will explore the local realities of current drug trends, root causes of addiction and means of intervention. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, County Attorney's Office, and Public Health are joining forces with Know the Truth and local law enforcement agencies to hold these Forums at two community high schools.

The Forums are an opportunity for all parents, teachers, and youth leaders to learn about the most current methods of talking to their kids about drug use, spotting warning signs, root causes of addiction, and how to seek help when needed.  The goal of Forum sponsors is to raise awareness and jump start community wide solutions to address the real and growing problem of drug abuse impacting families throughout Ramsey County.

The forums will be held on Thursday, October 8 at North Saint Paul High School, and Thursday, October 29 at Mounds View High School. Both will run from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.

Information will be available before and after the Forum from local resources including Fairview Riverside, Ramsey County Children's Crisis Response, Detoxification, Public Health, Attorney, Sheriff, and local law enforcement, counseling and rehabilitation service providers.

Free admission.  CEU credits offered for social work, LADC, nurses, and education professionals.  Open to all Ramsey County residents, with all parents encouraged to attend.

Presenter: Mark Groves This 3-hour workshop will help participants become exposed and familiar with ethical theory and boundary issues pertaining to their profession. Participant will also be provided with an introduction to understanding and recognizing the origins, potential dangers and implications of behaving in a manner that crosses over the boundaries of ethical guidelines. All professionals have a violation potential which is the product of the risks we take compounded by our unseen internal vulnerabilities. MDH Office of Medical Cannabis to hold community sessions around the state

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Office of Medical Cannabis is holding a series of community sessions around the state this fall offering members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the state’s medical cannabis program. Participants also will have the opportunity to provide input on the question of adding intractable pain to the list of medical conditions that qualify people to participate in the program.

Vigilance is the state of being carefully observant and attentive, in order to notice and respond to potential dangers or threats. The 2015 Overcoming Racism conference will explore what vigilance looks like and what vigilance requires of us in order to resist and transform the system of racial hierarchy operating in our lives, organizations, institutions and communities.
Vigilance demands an understanding of how racism has historically been created, enforced and embedded in systems and structures as well as in our minds and bodies – and the many ways that people and communities have resisted. We must uplift and strengthen narratives that advance racial equity and inclusion to counter the mainstream narratives that continue to enforce white domination, and carefully observe and call out the ways different systems of oppression intersect with and support racism. Conference participants will have the opportunity to hear multiple perspectives on vigilance and racism past and present; to learn about different approaches and tools for vigilance, resistance and response; and to connect with others working to transform organizations, institutions and communities.

Minnesota Fathers & Families Network (MFFN) recognizes that fathers play a critical role in healthy parenting. Fatherhood in the 21st century comes with challenges that are unique to fathers...including married and unmarried fathers, custodial and noncustodial fathers, teen fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, etc. We can see a shift in expectations across cultures and socio-economic levels over the past decades. How men choose to meet these expectations, and how as fatherhood professionals we best support fathers today continues to be a challenge.  

For our 13th annual Minnesota Fatherhood & Family Services Summit, we are bringing other professionals together to share and discuss the many ways that fathers contribute to the health and well-being of their children and best practices to serve fathers today.

We invite you to submit a proposal to share information and highlight best practices and successes with fathers and their families from all regions of Minnesota.

The Northeast Regional Corrections Center welcomes you to our Fall Transition Fair!

 Wednesday November 4th, 12:30 – 3:00 at NERCC. 

NERCC is a minimum level security facility, located approximately 12 miles outside of the Duluth city limits. Currently, NERCC provides education, vocational training, cognitive reflection and self-change programming, chemical dependency treatment, sexual offender treatment, and mental health and physical health services to over 450 adult male residents per year. NERCC, which is governed by Arrowhead Regional Corrections,works with males from St. Louis, Cook, Carlton, Koochiching, and Lake Counties.
