St. Louis County Health and Human Service Conference October 15-16, 2015 Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) This year's theme "The Dance of Compassion." Our Conference draws together 2,500+ health and human service practitioners and 150 exhibitors from the public and private sectors for two days of training and networking. Conference offerings include one hundred and sixteen  (1 1/2 hour) Workshops and eleven (3 1/2 hour) Institutes. Participants can attend Workshops and Institutes of their choice throughout the conference. Note: parking is available at the DECC at $5 rate. Conference online registration is open.

Minnesota Social Service Association Presents... Northwest District Conference September 10-11, 2015 Courtyard by Marriott 1080 28th Avenue South Moorhead, Minnesota Our theme, "All In", encourages us to take a fresh look at inclusion in the health and human services profession.  We anticipate the Northwest District Conference will draw approximately 100 professionals from the public and private sectors of the northwestern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. For those who work with youth, managing challenging behaviors that interfere with development, learning or success can be both frustrating and exhausting. This workshop will review challenging behaviors related to aggression, non-compliance and attention-seeking, and will provide a framework for intervening with these behaviors. Participants will analyze the effectiveness of their current approach and develop insights into what is happening when attempts at intervention do not work. They will gain a clear understanding of how to structure interactions for positive outcomes and will be provided with a coaching model to bring out the best in youth who exhibit challenging behaviors.

Brain Injury Basics!

The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance provides free or low-cost educational opportunities for all people affected by brain injury, including family and friends, and training opportunities for the professionals who support them. Our Brain Injury Basics workshops are a primary education opportunity for individuals, families and friends.

Registration is required. All classes take place in the Education Center at the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance. A $5 donation is appreciated from individuals with brain injury, family members and friends; the fee per session is $25 for professionals. The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is offering Lunch and Learn Seminars for Social Workers and Social Service Professionals. Continuing Education Units have been approved by the Board of Social Work and will be available at each seminar. The seminars will begin at 12 p.m. (noon) and be held at the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance office in Roseville.

The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans will be hosting a free legal clinic Tuesday, September 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and Tuesday, September 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.

Veterans ID Cards Available Through Community Clinics.

Veterans can have their Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) processed remotely through the Minneapolis VA community clinics in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.  Veterans must schedule an appointment through the VA Call Center at 612-467-1100.  Clinics start at 8:30 a.m. and the last appointment is 3:15 p.m.  Veterans need to bring appropriate ID verification.
