Secretary of State Ruth Johnson has launched an innovative customer-service feature in 10 of the busiest offices that allows customers to make appointments and even get in line from home. She made the announcement last week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The system, called MI-TIME Line allows those who must come to an office to make a reservation online or to check in at a kiosk when they arrive at a branch. They can then go shopping, grab lunch or run whatever errands they may have rather than waiting in the branch office. The system will send them a text or call to let them know when their turn is approaching.
People can visit the MI-TIME Line page or find participating offices by visiting the Branch Office Locator and searching for “Get In Line Online” offices under “Select specific service.” The service already is available in offices in the Flint Area SUPER!Center and Capital Area SUPER!Center in Lansing, and will be launched in the coming weeks in offices in Grand Rapids and throughout southeast Michigan.
This is the latest innovation designed to bring customers greater convenience in doing business with the Secretary of State. Earlier this month, Johnson announced email and text message renewal and election reminders.

Staff at the Michigan Department of State recently received high praise for helping a Michigan car-hauling company navigate smoothly through titling and plating challenges during its major acquisition of another trucking company.
Kathleen McCann, chief executive officer of Romulus-based United Road, now the second-largest car hauler in North America, sent a letter of praise and appreciation to Secretary of State Ruth Johnson in December in which she said the state was “an exceptional partner” in helping move thousands of her company's trucks and trailers around the country to Michigan registration “without missing a beat.”
“In short, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our company and the execution risks were immense,” McCann wrote. “It was important to have a high degree of confidence in both your team’s ability and desire to help us through this transformative acquisition. Our confidence was well placed.
“On behalf of the entire United Road team, please share our gratitude and respect with your team. The citizens of Michigan should be very proud of these professionals that have proven that Michigan is not only 'Open for Business,' but, if I may, 'Driven to Deliver!'"
