Police Look for Armed Robbery Suspects

The Royal Oak Police Department is investigating an armed robbery of the Radio Shack, located at 29160 Woodward Avenue, after an employee called 911 on Wednesday to report three men robbed the store.  At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. Read more>>

Royal Oak, Ferndale, Madison Heights Say Yes to Cutting-Edge Wellness Center for City Employees

While climbing costs of health care continue to be a major concern nationwide, the cities of Royal Oak, Ferndale and Madison Heights are optimistic the creation of a health and wellness center for government employees can save hundreds of thousands of dollars on health care costs.

On Monday, the Royal Oak City Commission passed a resolution to approve an interlocal agreement that authorizes the build out of a clinic within Madison Heights City Hall to be managed by CareHere, a Tennessee-based management company specializing in providing on-site health care. Read more>>

City-Wide Block Party

Safe Neighborhoods City-Wide Block Party

Upon the two-year anniversary of reinstating neighborhood watch meetings, the Royal Oak Crime Prevention Council presents the second-annual City-Wide Block Party on Wednesday, June 11 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The family-friendly City Wide Block Party is appropriate for all ages, is alcohol free and free of admission!

Families, singles and seniors are encouraged to attend and interact with: 

  • Neighbors and other residents
  • Community Groups
  • City Officials
  • Royal Oak Police & Fire Departments 

Plus, youth will enjoy: 

  • Exploring Police Vehicles, Fire Trucks and Dump Trucks & SWAT
  • Youth Golf provided by the Royal Oak Community Coalition
  • Royal Oak Animal Shelter
  • Arts & Crafts and the launch of the Summer Reading Program provided by the Royal Oak Library  
  • Parents and youth will discover opportunities to stay active and safe this summer.

The entire community will learn more about: 

  • Royal Oak Crime Prevention Council
  • Royal Oak Youth Assistance
  • Royal Oak Animal Shelter
  • Royal Oak SAFE (Suicide prevention Awareness is For Everyone)

Great food is on the menu provided by a variety of vendors including El Guapo, Mac Shack, Gourmet Zebra and Treat Dreams.  Water and soda is donated by Hollywood Market.  Special thank you to the Farmers Market - the ideal venue for the event!

Summer Reading Program Opening Day Activities

The 2014 Summer Reading Program begins with Opening Day activities on Saturday, June 7. Children of all ages are welcome to participate in games, crafts and see live animals on the library lawn beginning at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend a variety of free programs during the seven-week reading program. Taste of Royal Oak

Nowadays, everyone's a foodie. And the people of metro Detroit have a particularly keen eye for all the great grub that's being made around town. So, to celebrate and indulge in all the fantastic fare that's available to us, a new annual event, known as Royal Oak Taste Fest, will be held at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Read more »

'Brides Day' Museum Open House

The Orson Starr House Guild will feature an exhibit of 1888 through 1960 bridal gowns at the Orson Starr House Museum, located at 3123 N. Main St. on June 8 from 1 - 4 p.m. Admission is free. Clay Glass Metal Show

Clay, Glass & Metal Show

The 20th Annual Clay, Glass & Metal Show, one of the jewels of Royal Oak, takes place Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 15 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak.

The 20th anniversary event includes some exciting special features, including the creation of a commemorative tile designed by northern Michigan artist Leif Spork. Read more>>
