U.S. Attacks Iraq - March 19 to May 1, 2003

US Attacks Iraq

The 2003 invasion of Iraq lasted from March 19 to May 1, 2003 and signaled the start of the conflict that later came to be known as the Iraq War, which was dubbed Operation Iraqi Freedom by the United States (prior to March, the mission in Iraq was called Operation Enduring Freedom, a carryover from the conflict in Afghanistan). The invasion consisted of 21 days of major combat operations, in which a combined force of troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland invaded Iraq and deposed the Ba'athist government of Saddam Hussein. The invasion phase consisted primarily of a conventionally fought war which concluded with the capture of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad by American forces.

Four countries participated with troops during the initial invasion phase, which lasted from March 19 to April 9, 2003. These were the United States (148,000), United Kingdom (45,000), Australia (2,000), and Poland (194). More than 35 other countries were involved in its aftermath. In preparation for the invasion, 100,000 U.S. troops were assembled in Kuwait by February 18. The coalition forces also received support from Kurdish irregulars in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Fourteen eLearning Soft Skills Critical to Your Job Search and Career

eLearning Soft Skills

Veterans! Are you equipped with the lifelong soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace? It is simply not enough to be book-smart. If you really want to stand out to an employer, you need skills that are not taught in the classroom. You were not born with these skills. You must learn them.

An ever increasing number of employers are basing their hiring decisions on candidates possessing these critical skills, as explained in this short video clip.

The Lifelong Soft Skills e-Learning Program features a free, fun, 14-session interactive format where students learn standards, assess themselves against those standards and then complete development exercises that will help them meet the standards employers expect and desire.

The full program of 14 eLearning modules on Lifelong Soft Skills are to provide a universally accessible soft skills training resource for the Michigan workforce for basic and foundational skills for the workplace, to help ensure the workforce is ready to succeed in the 21st century. The goal of this Lifelong Soft Skills eLearning series is to raise awareness among students and employees about key skills needed for workplace success. It encourages and suggests attributes that employers are looking for, and is not intended to address employer practices or labor management relations.
